Do Not Go Gently Travel Blog

The travel blogging world is full of impossibly attractive, twenty something travel bloggers. Their Instas full of moody images of sunsets, toned bodies zip lining through the jungle, or posing moodily in a scanty bikini under a tropical waterfall.

Frankly, I couldn’t have pulled that off when I was in my twenties (definitely not the bikini)? But why should that be the norm? There is a vast audience out there that can’t, and doesn’t want to, relate to that. This is where the Do Not Go Gently Travel Blog comes in. It’s aimed at those of us who aren’t in the first flush of youth, but are also not ready for the pipe and slippers yet.

The Do Not Go Gently Travel Blog was inspired by the Dylan Thomas poem of (almost) the same name. In it, Thomas exhorts his dying father to rage against the dying of the light, and it’s this philosophy which drives my travel blog.

My name’s Neil, I’m newly 60, newly retired, and a travel addict. You won’t find posts on the hottest clubs in Ayia Napa, or the best ultramarathons to run. You will find real world, first hand, advice on unusual destinations. The blog will feature ways to navigate solo travel off the beaten track and tips for senior independent travellers.

As a bid manager with 30 years’ experience at the top end of the game, I developed the knack of writing compelling text which engaged the people deciding who to allocate multimillion pound contracts to. I was good at it, and it’s this skill which translates into my ability to write interesting articles which hook readers and offer them real value.

I am also an accomplished photographer, specialising in nature and concert photography with many publications to my name.

Do Not Go Gently Travel Blog readers can expect well-written, richly illustrated articles.

I split the blog into three major categories. First, destinations, posts covering locations I’ve visited and experienced. Next, nature and wildlife, an insight into how to see some of our world’s amazing fauna. Finally, travel hacks, tips and tricks on how to travel smarter, better and cheaper.

So is the Do Not Go Gently Travel blog going to be staid and boring? Surely, at 60, I’m too old now for anything other than cruises and nice, safe, organised tours, right?

Hell no! I delve into the underbelly of destinations. When I visit somewhere, I want to experience its culture, listen to its music, try its food and, definitely, see what the locals are drinking.

Hence, the creation of the Do Not Go Gently travel blog. There are thousands of travel blogs out there written by, and for, kids. Why should they have all the fun?

So, got a few more miles on the clock? Fancy more than a fortnight basking in the Spanish sun? Then this is the blog for you.

Even if you’re not that old, there’s still going to be plenty here for you too.
